How to Lock / Unlock Pages with the Story Tellers iOS Starter Kit 2

You can lock pages, or mini-games, in your Story Tellers Kit 2 based app using simple properties discussed in this video. In short, we will check if a variable name (of your choosing) equals or does not equal a specific value (again of your choosing). So you might check for something like…

Page2Access = Unlocked

If so, a button for Page2 is enabled. If not, the button events to go to Page2 are disabled.

The video also shows how to use a property called SetValuesIfNil, which is only run if this is the reader’s  first time opening the app (in which case, you’ll want to lock up the restricted / hidden content). Then you’ll see how to use SetValues to unlock restricted pages.

The kit is Swift 2 and SpriteKit based, and uses the latest version of Xcode (currently Xcode 7) To purchase Lifetime Updates of the Story Tellers iOS Starter Kit 2, and get started making your own children’s book apps with iOS9, visit here.
